通常版面设计会经过以下几个程序完成，但也会因设计者个人习惯、设计要求等因素增加或者减少个别步骤。
Usually, layout design is completed through the following procedures, but individual steps may be added or removed due to personal habits and design requirements of the designer.
构思并画出草图。可能会有若干草图备选。
Conceptualize and draw a sketch. There may be several sketch options available.
选出设计稿。从草图中选取一个或者几个较贴近设计要求的，并进一步描绘出其细节。
Select the design draft. Select one or several sketches that are closer to the design requirements and further depict their details.
正稿。在甄选出最后设计方案后，对该方案进行正式的设计、编排、绘制等操作。
Final draft. After selecting the final design scheme, carry out formal design, arrangement, and drawing operations on the scheme.
清样。清样是从印刷设备上制作出的校样。清样应当同最终成品一致。制作清样就是为了防止在正式印刷制作前仍有没能发现的文字错误、纰漏，不合乎设计要求的细节，或者是没有调整好分色方案等。如果出现错误，就需要回到上一步继续修改，因此，清样可能制作不只一次。
Clear sample. A proof is a proof made from printing equipment. The sample should be consistent with the final product. Making a clear sample is to prevent undetected text errors, omissions, details that do not meet design requirements, or color separation schemes that have not been properly adjusted before formal printing and production. If there is an error, you need to go back to the previous step to continue making modifications, so the sample may be made more than once.
